Real Seafood Company - Ann Arbor, MI

My wife and I stopped into Real Seafood on a Sunday afternoon because they have a Birthday special where you can eat for free. The restaurant was fairly empty, but that was to be expected at 2pm on a Sunday. The manager was very accommodating and immediately changed the television to the basketball game that I requested. Great menu - as you'd expect tons of different seafood choices.

We had a lite lunch. I had the clam chowder, and I was very impressed w/ it. Tasty, good ratio of potatoes and clams. I didn't need to any salt or pepper. My wife and I also split a plate of calamari and we were very happy w/ it. Tasty, well cooked, clean fryolator oil, only calamari rings, and it came w/ a great tartar sauce. My wife also nibbled on a couple pieces of bread, and the bread was very good as well. Our server was polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. All in all, a good experience. We will definitely be visiting the Real Seafood Company for dinner at some point.

Terry B's - Dexter, MI, 2nd visit

My wife and I had 7pm reservations on Saturday night, and when we arrived the restaurant was more than half empty, which is disappointing. We really like the look of Terry B's, and our meal four weeks ago was excellent. We sat at a table this time, and we were happy w/ the privacy it afforded us. Anyway, it took more than five minutes for the waitress to greet us and take our drink order - not a good way to start dinner. Then it took another five minutes to actually get the drinks. My wife had the signature chicken chowder, which was fantastic. I opened w/ the Gazpacho, which was good - it was refreshing. Nothing complicated, simple ingredients, but well done.

My wife had the Fillet for dinner. She ordered it 'medium', and it was well cooked. The steak was fine, no complaints, it came w/ mashed potatoes and asparagus. For $26 I'd expect a slightly better meal, but it was good. I had the pheasant - and the pheasant itself was excellent - tasty, well cooked, great flavor. I didn't really care for the mushroom risotto, it was bland. There were also a couple grilled apricots on the plate that were fantastic - I'd never tasted apricot that was prepared that way.

For dinner we finished w/ the molten cake. It was fine, no real complaints, but I've had similar desserts other places that were better.

All in all it was a good experience, but definitely not as good as our first trip. I think walking into a half empty restaurant at 7pm on a Saturday night doesn't put anyone in the right frame of mind.

Eve - Ann Arbor, MI

My wife and I have eaten at Eve four times, and Eve is without a doubt the best food that we've had in Michigan. The nacho appetizer is incredible - fried wontons covered in gouda w/ a touch of creme freche, order it, you won't be disappointed. The menu is well written and offers choices to all palates. The daily fish specials are excellent. And definitely save room for dessert - get the Triple Chocolate thing - it is perfect.

Great service at eve - laid back but knowledgeable. The bartender is great- he knows his wine and won't hesitate to make a suggestion. We've bought a case of wine from the restaurant before. Some people may feel that eve is pricey (entrees in the $18-30 range), but you get what you pay for. Once you've eaten at eve, you can always buy the cookbook as a gift for that special someone.

Highly recommend eve. Super highly. Four stars.

Casey's - Ann Arbor, MI

We've been here numerous times. Good bar food. Simple, not complicated.

Great place to get a burger. You can order a burger and 3 toppings for $9. Most importantly, Casey's will cook a burger medium rare, and they do it well. I've had at least five burgers from Casey's and each of them has been cooked properly. Good fries. We don't care for the onion rings, but to each their own.

Casey's gets busy at dinnertime, and there is usually a wait for a table. The bar is fairly small - it seats maybe 12, but there is a bar rail as well, and that's where parties waiting for a table tend to congregate. The beer selection is adequate, nothing to rave about. Casey's isn't a great place to watch a game, the TV's are viewable from pretty much anywhere in the restaurant, but the TV's are on the small side.

All in all, Casey's is a great place to go when you're in the mood for a burger.

Terry B's - Dexter, MI

My wife and I had dinner at Terry B's in downtown Dexter, MI on a recent Saturday night. We called earlier in the day and found out that there weren't any open reservations. We parked down the street - Terry's is located about a block outside of downtown Dexter so parking is plentiful. We walked in at 6pm and ate at the bar. The first impression upon walking into Terry B's is very positive - high ceilings, bold colors, very modern looking but still retains the character of the old building.

Decent wine list and a handful of beers on tap. Nice 50' flat screen positioned above the bar - but in a way that the TV doesn't dominate the room, but is still viewable to catch the score of the game.

The restaurant was full - there was one large party of 16 people, but other than that the average table seemed to be made up of either a couple or a pair of couples. The restaurant isn't quiet, but the noise level is great - it's a busy place!

Friendly bartender. She was knowledgeable about the menu and wasn't shy about giving us her opinion. The menu had a number of interesting options - the prices ranged from $17-27. Standards such as steak, chicken, pork, vegetarian, flat bread pizzas, and a variety of fish choices. The pheasant and short ribs jumped out at me, but I decided upon a lighter entree. We did feel that menu was more geared towards autumn, but perhaps the menu will be changing. There's maybe ten appetizer options and a dozen entrees, plus the daily specials. Sometimes restaurants offer too many choices, so we were really happy to see that the chef at Terry B's knew what he wanted to cook and didn't try to make everything under the sun.

My wife started w/ Roasted Corn Chowder - which was excellent. I had the Pumpkin Soup. The Pumpkin soup was good - I had never had a pumpkin soup before, so it was a nice change of pace. But we liked the Roasted Corn Chowder much better. The Chowder is similar to the Common Grill's. Bread came w/ the meal as well - a basket of fresh, interesting choices - including a cherry bread which we really liked. I had the daily fish special and was very happy w/ my order. My wife ordered the chicken off of the menu, and raved about her dish. We both finished our entire plates. Good sized portions.

All in all we had a good time at Terry B's and would recommend it. We will be going back.
